I am truly honored to apply for the Mclntyre-Smith scholarship. I hope I am the right candidate for you. I am the first generation in my family to attend college. I have three younger siblings; two are in high school and the youngest is learning to talk. Growing up in a less privileged family has not only offered financial and academic challenges, but it has more importantly made me realize the value of a college education. As the oldest of my siblings, my desire is to set a positive example and be a role model for others to see that education is the key for dreams to come true. I like to spend my time gaining knowledge of how to change my community for a better tomorrow. I completed my AA at Edmonds Community College, and I want to continue pursuing my dream: To prove to my community that even though the road in life may get rough, that with persistence and faith, everything is possible. English is my second language, so school has been difficult for me. However, that will not stop me from becoming what I want to be. To make my dream come true, I have to keep pushing until I pass the bar exam; my hopes and dreams are to become a lawyer. .
I have set my mind towards helping my community and help adolescents make positive choices. My enthusiasm for law studies arose when my parents sought to become citizens of the United States. I was fortunate to be born in the U.S; however, my parents had to wait until I turned eighteen years old to file for citizenship. If they would have had a close relative who was an immigration lawyer, they would have saved a lot on costs. I want to be the family member that helps in legal matters. Seeing how challenging a career in law can be, I believe that I have the necessary requirements to achieve my ambitions, and thereby fulfilling my vision to become a successful lawyer for this up-and-coming generation of lawyers.
Besides my studies, I participate in many sports activities, volunteer and serve in my church.
