Man with a Movie Camera - Directed by Dziga Vertov

This treaty was fairly generous to Russia, since she was fighting a national civil war that was of higher priority. The Russian Civil War was fought between the Bolshevik Red Army and the Anti-Bolshevik White Army. The Bolsheviks eventually defeated the White Army and became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. As the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin was one of the leaders of this new party and was viewed by many as a tyrant who would significantly influence future Russian political parties. Vertov had to please the leaders in government, especially Joseph Stalin; otherwise he would have been banned from making more films. Vertov made "Man with a Movie Camera" with hopes of rallying support for communism; after all the Russian film industry was funded by the government. .
             A firm Communist believer, Vertov spread the ideas of everyone in society receiving the same benefits and being equally important to a functioning society. Vertov made Man with Movie Camera so Russia as a whole could apply the revolutionary communistic ideals and work together as one unit to become a more dominant state domestically and internationally. Man with a Movie Camera focused on educating the masses and emphasized that everyone in Russia should do their jobs with maximum effort like an efficient machine. Vertov achieved this goal by attaching many short clips of multiple cities to emphasize that every person in the city is important for the maintenance of the community. Vertov believed that: "This film is an experiment in cinematic communication of real events without the help of inter-titles. Without the help of a story. Without the help of theatre. This experimental work aims at creating a truly international language of cinema based on its absolute separation from the language of theatre and literature.
