Crew members, shift leaders and bakers are the bread and butter of the organization. They are the front line of the restaurant. They are the ones who see the customer first and have the chance to make the best impression. Crew members and shift leaders of Dunkin Donuts must be able to speak and write English, be able to count money and make change and be able to operate restaurant equipment. A shift leader is the next level up from crew member. The shift leader should also possess the capacity to teach, communicate responsibilities, reinforce procedures and hold crew members accountable for their goals. Dunkin Donuts is known for its delicious donuts and pastries, so being a baker is one of the most important jobs. Many times crew members and bakers are cross-utilized. A baker should have many of the same traits that a crew member has. A baker must also have time management skills and the ability to stay on task. Bakers may start early in the morning before the store opens, so a manager may not be on duty. A baker may or may not have previous baking experience but must be able to be coached to do the job.
The Assistant Manager is one person below running his/her own store. This person would have many of the same traits as a manager or be open to learning them. A Dunkin Donuts Manager must be able to be a leader and provide a positive work environment. The manager is responsible for the entire operation of the restaurant (Dunkin Brands iRecruitment, n.d.). The job description of a manager includes: hiring, training and developing their employees, reviewing the employees' performance, providing feedback and mentoring, and, when necessary, disciplining (Dunkin Brands iRecruitment, n.d.). Operational excellence is also part of being a great manager.
