The Death of Feminism

It's more important to be asking than complaining" (Bjork). As stated prior, a high percentage of people view "feminist "as a negative word because it connotes a bad image. As made clear by Bjork, feminism is seen as a movement based on negative complaining rather than positive actions. According to Eleanor Harding for The Daily Mail, "A third [of women] view traditional radical feminism as 'too aggressive' towards men.One in five describe it as 'old-fashioned' and simply 'not relevant' to their generation" (Harding). Since women now have the right to vote as well as the right to contraception, there is less motivation to be involved in the movement. These statistics show that there is a lack in women's need for feminism because in addition, there is a belief that the modern version is more hostile towards men and increasingly demeaning to women. .
A major turn off from modern day feminism is its association with man-hating. In the Huffington Posts quotes of celebrities and their association with feminism, Kelly Clarkson states "I think when people hear feminist, it's like 'Get out of my way, I don't need anyone.' I love that I am being taken care of and I have a man that's a leader." (Clarkson) Women such as Clarkson are opposed to modern day feminism because it tends to bring forth an image of a woman who solely depends on herself. Many women do not like this image because they have husbands and do not want to come off as unappreciative towards them. Along with an appreciation many women feel towards chivalrous acts of men, such as opening doors or aiding a woman in a time of distress, some feminists believe that these acts fall into a category called benevolent sexism. Benevolent Sexism is defined by Forbes as "attitudes that view women and men in stereotypical roles, but feel 'positive' or even complimentary in nature".
