Forensics and the Crime Scene


            Forensics is the use of science and technology to investigate and establish facts. The technology used to investigate and establish facts are used in criminal or civil courts of law (thefreedictonary.com). Forensic science has been used to better the criminal justice system. This goes into detail about types of crime scenes, the jobs of the officers, the procedures of the investigation, the importance of the evidence, and the different types of death scenes. The upbringing of criminal investigation dates back to the eighteenth century. Due to all of the government changes that were being made, crime in England was an all-time high. Throughout the years, a selected group of men were chosen to become specialized detectives. The detectives had a positive effect because a decrease in crime rates were taking place. America soon began to establish its own police agencies as effort to have the same effect as England (Road, 1). .
             As the forensic and criminal justice field progressed, the types of crime scenes were discovered. First, there is the outdoor crime scene. This crime scene is the most vulnerable to loss, contamination, and drastic changes to physical evidence in only a short period of time. Evidence is a treasured thing to come across in this type of scene. The indoor type of crime scene is much easier to work with. Evidence is less susceptible to loss, contamination, and damaging change. A simple task of closing the door could secure and protect left behind DNA samples. DNA has now become a factor to a case. Last is a conveyance crime scene. The word conveyance means "the transmission of information " or "the act of moving something from one location to another " (Lee, 36). For example, types of crimes committed in a conveyance scenes are grand theft auto, sexual battery, and homicide. Evidence may extend beyond the scene itself. Things like footprints in soil leading away from the scene, and cigarette butts are commonly found at the location.
