The hiding place the Frank family and the van Daan family (family friends, Mr., Mrs., and Peter van Daan) are running away to is Anne's Father's office Building. They call it the secret Annex.

Anne feels like she is an outsider and that she doesn't belong when it come to her family. Feels as through the only ones she can open up to is her father and her journal.
Friday, August 14, 1942.
The van Daans have arrived and Mr. Van Daan relayed the news that most people around the Franks old neighbourhood think the Franks snuck over the border to Belgium.

There is now a bookshelf on the door to the secret annex to make sure it stays secret.

Tension is rising between the van Daans and the Franks, but mostly within the van Daan Family. .

Anne is annoyed by the fact that Mrs. Van Daan is telling her what to do all the time, though Anne's parents always come to her defence.

Anne is enraged about how much bickering and nitpicking there is from Mrs. Van Daan about what seems to be every inch of Anne's personality.

Anne describes the different difficulties involved in taking a bath while in hiding.

Anne is upset at the fact Mrs. Van Daan shamelessly flirts with her father. After all Anne's mother doesn't treat Mr. Van Daan like that.

Anne dreams of freedom from the annex and carefully plans out what she would buy if she and her father went to Switzerland to live with her cousins.

Anne got quite a fright when whom she thought was the carpenter started bang on the door to the annex. Luckily the knock was only from Mr. Kleiman.
