Men, Women and Feminism

.
The conversation about sexism in the workforce is substantiated by the fact that women in America make less than their male counterpart, and less women find the workforce an encouraging place to enter because of its reputation of male dominance. The economic production and standard of living within the United States would drastically change if these barriers did not exist. Research by Roberts and Daly (2010) state that closing the employment gap could hold major implications, "Raising female employment to male employment levels would boost US GDP by as much as 9%" (p. 5). This fact alone says that women need to become empowered and encouraged to seek professions that will give them equal opportunity if the United States ever wishes to grow its economy. According to Miller (2014), on average, men and women in the same profession experience a twenty two percent pay gap with the difference being the largest in higher paying professions, "In 2013, female full-time workers made 78 cent for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of twenty two percent" (para 6). The justification to these statistics says that men work more demanding hours while women work less; however, the study conducted revealing this information adjusts for age, race, hours, and education, making the transgression illogical and inexcusable. The reason men do not acknowledge these statistics is because they are not the ones who are negatively affected by them, or so they think. If men were to work with women to solve these problems the American economy would experience a rise in it its standard of living. .
When it comes to violence, the most needless, most heinous, and most preventable is sexual violence, yet it is so prevalent that women are taught to be cautious in each decision they make to avoid becoming another statistic. Sexual violence can be greatly reduced if men were taught the value of sexual security, but instead women are taught to protect themselves against sexual assault.
