The Aids Epidemic and Advertising

The majority of the ad is wonder women in her commonly portrayed superhero costume on a hospital bed in critical and frightening condition. Her vastly pale skin complexion displays an appearance that is due to the disease she has been inflicted with and her bruises are from the needles that symbolize discomfort and agonizing pain. Usually, Wonder Women is depicted as being a remarkably strong, healthy and beautiful superhero. She is always seen as being better than an average human due to her flying abilities and powers she is usually given. Due to AIDS, the advertisement illustrates that she is too weak to use any of her powers and is barely able to function. Usually, she is saving people's lives but due to AIDS, she isn't able to save her own. In addition, her physical appearance wouldn't appeal to be attractive or fine looking. As a result, she appears to be viewed no better than any other person diagnosed with this critical disease.
The words "AIDS make us equal" are the message trying to be reached out to the audience and is placed on the bottom in white font. Next to this message is a white box framing with the words " Aides" and the AIDS symbol. AIDES is the European HIV/AIDS NGO founded in 1984.Under the words "Aides" is another message "protect yourself" encouraging people to practice safe sex so they would prevent getting HIV which will most likely lead to AIDS .At first, the reader of the larger message "AIDS make us equal" would be alarmed due to the terrifying effects AIDS cause and how there's an equal chance that any individual can catch it. By reading the smaller message "protect yourself", the reader's fear would be relieved because it's reminding them that there is something that can be done to prevent AIDS. Due to the correlation of these two messages, the reader is most likely convinced to practice safe sex, which will help them stay protected.
