Making small changes to enhance our environment may seem a little farfetched at this point in time. People may ask themselves "why bother? " just like Michael Pollan did when he was trying to make a difference in the world. When you think about it, there is always going to be someone doing the opposite of someone else, and in this case, there is someone out there contributing to the problem as Michael Pollan and a few other people are trying to dispose of it. Many people don't realize that we are the ones creating this trouble by driving our cars everyday, leaving all the lights on as we leave the house, and buying all this processed food. All of these things we do everyday produce greenhouse gases, specifically carbon dioxide, which is the main contributor to global warming and climate change. Individuals are emitting more greenhouse gases into the air than the natural carbon cycle can manage and we don't even notice because it is a part of our everyday life. To illustrate my point about people being the reason for our climate crisis, Michael Pollan writes "The Big Problem is nothing more or less than the sum total of countless little everyday choices, most of them made by us and most of the rest of them made in the name of our needs and desires and preferences " (872). The author is trying to tell us that this whole issue has to do with the little choices we choose to do everyday that could be avoided. For example, Pollan states that he started to ride his bike to work, plant a garden, turned down the thermostat and used laundry lines all because he bothered. People may disagree, but all the small things we do eventually add up, adding to the environmental crisis. It's the little things that count, and the only way to make a difference is to start by making small changes in our lifestyle.
In addition, it is evident that people tend to have faith in people higher up to fix our predicaments.
