As years progressed, we have been experiencing dramatic changes within our civilization as we embrace the world of technology. Much technological advancement, such as IPhones, Blackberries, and Macbooks, are becoming an important part of our daily lives. These electronic devices have made our lives more convenient. Technological developments have also made significant impacts in various fields within our society such as medical science, communication, education, and civilization. Although technology has taken a role in assisting us by making our lives simpler, I feel that we are becoming too dependent on these cutting-edge devices to the point that we tend forget ourselves and understand what truly means to be human. .
Medical science is a particular field that has rapidly progressed due to recent technological breakthroughs. Due to the availability and the improvements of medical equipment and scientific machinery, scientists and other medical researchers are able to study more complicated illnesses and further delve into the increased complexity of the human anatomy. An example of this could be a recent international scientific research project conducted by the FDA called the Human Genome Project. This assignment has successfully determined about ninety-nine percent of the sequence of chemical base pairs that make up the basic compound structure for human DNA (West, 4). Such detailed knowledge of the human chromosome provides new avenues for advancement in medicine and biotechnological developments. It has led me to believe that our society has benefited from this experiment along with new information recorded from research that can eventually improve our knowledge within the medical science. .
However, while medical science brings a lot of positive impacts on our society, it also raises many ethical and social issues that we could not possibly ignore. With the newly technological reinforcements that are now available to us in the market, many scientists have considered exploring the subject of "designer infants " such that parents are able to pick and decide on the color of a newborn's hair or eyes (West, 6).
