Business Comparison - A Sociological Perspective

81 per hour for this family of four to live independently! .
I noticed during my observations at both stores that more white families use an EBT card than black families. The American Community Survey done by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010 explains that about 70% of the U.S. children population was white in 2010, and about 13% was black. The survey also shows white children making up 50-55% of the poverty population, while blacks comprise 25-30%. In other words, there are more blacks living in poverty than not. If the results of this 2010 survey are close to today's percentages, we should expect to see more blacks with an EBT card than whites. Poor children are raised in families who suffer due to several of society's issues, not a personal financial trouble. Issues take place outside the realm of personal life and threaten public values. Unemployment is a major issue in our country affected by institutional racism and privilege of different races, especially whites. Black job applicants have been rejected simply because of their race. Many businesses once prohibited all blacks from using their goods and services. Some people continue to do this after numerous laws have been passed to bring an end to racism. White privilege is more complicated because it usually happens without anyone thinking about it. If institutional racism and white privilege did not exist, the difference between unemployment rates of blacks and whites would be significantly lowered, and more blacks would have jobs. We have no free choice if a situation will lead to racism and privilege, but we can do something about it. Many people try to ignore race and poverty issues either because they know that they are part of the problem, or they think it can never be fixed. Employment is one of the requirements for anyone to receive an EBT card. Unless something is done about society's racial issues, there will always be more whites over-represented in the welfare programs.
