The Civil War - America's North and South

Jackson believed Adam and Clay had performed a corrupt bargain. If a nations central government, the most important form of structure to run a country has dis-trust and conflicts, how can a nation of people be expected to be unified? This led to Jacksons presidency the following election, and his term only added on to the resume of a dis-unified nation. For starters, people may have believed that the common cause for the goal of Manifest Destiny was a uniting belief. However, with the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the Native Americans were pushed away. The Native Americans are a part of the United States, their anger and discomfort signifies no unity within nation. Also, the states showed their use of the doctrine of nullification for the Tariff of Abomination. After the Tariff of 1832 was nullified by South Carolina, Jackson authorized a force bill that threatened the state to call in troops to enforce the tariff. Even though South Carolina accepted a compromise, a resolution was never reached and ultimately continued to remain an issue until the Civil War only adding to the resume. This is only the beginning.
Within each region of the United States, problems preventing unity were present. The most recognizable conflict was in the North. With inventions such as the power loom or interchangeable parts, there was a rapid spurt of growth in the textile industry. This rapid growth resulted a shortage of labor in many areas in the North. To try to entice laborers, the government came up with the so called Lowell system. This system guaranteed employees housing, proper wages, and participation in social events that were organized by the mill in which the employee is at. This may seem as society is working together, but later the working conditions began to deteriorate. Workers began to organize labor unions to protect their personal interests. This showed a unification between the laborers and working class, however showed a disunity between the people and the government.
