Citizen Journalism and Government Oppression

Orwell coined doublespeak in 1984 but it is now commonplace in modern media, especially during the second Bush administration.
Another variation that is brought in by these Ministries in 1984 is the concept of Newspeak. Newspeak is a way of limiting a language to remove Synonyms and Antonyms, ensuring there is no deviation from a Party message. It also gives the writer chance to remove negatives, taking the word out and replacing it with a positive fitted with a prefix "good and bad " becoming "good and ungood ". An example would be "Big Brother is ungood ", sounding completely out of place the mind would resort to "Big Brother is good ". An example in modern media would be; Politically Correct set to insure fairness to minorities but making the minority a minority by doing so. .
Big Brother is the image and idea of a controlling leader that the citizens of Oceania are to idolize and worship at risk of encoring the affection of The Ministry of Love. The control of Big Brother is put in place by monitors and cameras, which had to be present in every home and every public space to ensure that no citizen where beyond their watch. These screens are often set into the central prominent wall of the citizen's living quarters, looking out across the room in much the same way that our television screens often take prominent position in our homes. Now with smart TVs fitted with cameras, are we that far from the idea Orwell composed in 1984?.
The term Big Brother originating from Orwell's hand, has also founds it's way into our culture. It is used to represent the idea of a controlling body watching our every move. As of 2011 reports state that in Britain there is one CCTV camera to every thirty-two people, over 1.85 million CCTV cameras. Are we in a Big Brother society yet? (Lewis P, 2011: 5).
Another concept, which was suggested by Orwell in 1984, that has found it's way into common language is the term Thought-Crime.
