After successfully launching Virgin Records where he and his friends sold records by post, Branson opened the first Virgin Record Shop at the cheaper end of London's Oxford Street. Also, in the music industry he and Simon Draper launched their own record company, Virgin Music. The company was launched at the end of May 1973 with the simultaneous release of four albums: Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, Flying Teapot by Gong, and a Manor Live jam session album that was a definitely of its time and The Faust Tapes by Faust. Fields met Richard at a party in London during which he proposed a business partnership. Due to following disagreements over operations, Fields agreed to be bought out for an initial sum of $1 million with further payment on Virgin's first dividend.
