In the famous movie series of Star Wars, the characters Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo have a little love drama. At some occasions, there are kiss-scenes between Luke and Leia, however, they never have intercourse. If they would, that would mean that they practised incestuous sexual conducts. In the last film of the Star Wars series, it is revealed that Luke and Leia are twin brother and sister though they never knew that for themselves. Afterwards they chose not to be together and Luke and Leia eventually found their own love and lived a long, happy life.

Incest between a father and a daughter is a common form of incest, though in most cases it is a question about rape. In Sweden, it is prohibited to practice incest. If the partners are siblings, parent and child, they risk going to prison for 1 to 2 years depending on what has been done and between whom. Incest is a well-known taboo all around the world. Both in the past and current societies, incest has been and is sinful because it is a taboo within different religions. A few celebrities have been thought of practice incest; for example, Angelina Jolie went out to the red carpet with her brother. What the paparazzi did not expect was that they would kiss each other. Angelina and her brother said in an interview that they are only very close, not a couple. However, if a deed like this had occurred during the medieval, she would have been sentenced to death by burning because at the 1500th century the Catholic Church officially announced that incest was heresy. .
The Westermarck effect is a popular theory that explains why most people are non-sexual attracted to family members and why incest is so unusual. The Finnish anthropologist Edvard Westermarck brought up this theory in the late 1900th century in his book The History of Human Marriage.
