             Response .
The play "12 Angry Men" is set in a New York City Court of Law jury room in 1957. The novel is written about a criminal case in which the accused is 16 year old teenager. He is charged with the act of premeditated homicide on his father, which has happened in their own apartment. The lad has a slum background, as well as having heavy evidence stacked him, and it is now up to 12 jurors to decide his fate. They are randomly chosen and are prohibited to have any other influence upon them for this case. In this essay, I will be mainly focusing on the 10th Juror and how he illustrates the theme of the play, as well as compare him to one another juror. .
Number 10 has quite the significant role in this play, in terms of illustrating the main topics of this play. He works as a garage owner, which, ironically, is not very influential to this story. He can be described as "a pushy, loud-mouthed fool." This can be seen throughout the novel, but a good example would be on Pg.12, where he interrupts the 4th Juror to say, "Brother, you can say that again. The kids who crawl outa those places are real trash. I don't any part of them, I'm telling you." This specifically shows his ridiculous prejudice against people with a slum background. Another quote that proves this is on Pg. 35 where he says "Look, this is absolutely insane. What's the idea of wasting everybody's time here?" In this scene, No.10 is dismissing the idea of breaking down the evidence of the old man's testimony. This is the complete opposite of what the other jurors want to do. He is also showing that this criminal case is tiring him, and that he just wants to get out of this room.
