Managing to keep his scholarship for each consecutive year, Richard graduated from Duke University in 1937 with high honors and was third in his class (Nixon.Archives.gov). Even though Nixon was denied funding to attend Harvard College, he still took the lot he was given and fiercely studied to obtain his law degree.
Richard Nixon faced many obstacles in his childhood. As a child, Richard underwent unspecified "physiological " abuse from time to time, but he still held his father in high esteem because Francis worked to provide for his family. Originally one of five brothers, Richard had to endure two of his brother's deaths while trying to complete his education. While enrolled at Duke University he managed to get scholarship renewed for each successive year of college. The Watergate Scandal.
Most people have little knowledge as to what occurred to bring about the destruction of Nixon's Presidency. The reality of the matter is that the Watergate burglary is shrouded in darkness, but it was not the cause of Nixon's downfall. Most of his political career was spent handling difficult situations with decorum and grace, but the Watergate Scandal was not something Richard was accustomed to controlling and he paid the price for his mistakes. Although Richard Nixon was an integral part in the cover up, he did not plan the Watergate burglary and the scandal ultimately tainted his public image to seal his eventual downfall.
On May 27th, 1972, five burglars were sent from the CRP, the Committee to Re-elect the President, to break into the DNC, the Democratic National Committee, to steal pictures of documents and bug phones (Hillstrom 11).
