The keys to any page turning novel is mystery, conflict, love and resolution. John Wilson" by Lois Simmie, includes all of these traits packed into only 209 pages. The story revolves around a man who comes to Canada in the hopes of getting away from a scandal in Scotland leaving his two kids and wife behind with the promise that he will return the following year. He falls severely ill and is unable to return back to Scotland. When he was ill a charming 16 year old girl, Jessie, takes great care of him whom he eventually falls in love with and decides to marry. His wife that he left in Scotland, Polly Wilson decides to come to Canada in search for her husband who hasn't replied to any of her letters. John is startled by Polly's surprise visit but does not tell her the truth about his intentions to marry Jessie. .
On a car ride to Blaine Lake, he ends up shooting her in the head, throwing her in a culvert and driving off. From there on a murder investigation occurs and John's lies begin to unravel. After being found guilty he is hung and Jessie is left alone to raise their son. Lois Simmie's thriller novel keeps you on your toes all the time.
