An Interview with My Father

He said his grades were very good. In fact they were a 4 out of 5 meaning they would have been a B on our grading scale. Before this answer I didn't think of my dad as great student, or a student period. Next I asked about some strategies or things he did to help him in class, hoping to adapt them myself. Unfortunately his answers were things I was aware of. He said he woke up early, studied after every lecture, got enough sleep, and took notes from the textbooks. During class he would sit where he could hear the professor. "I didn't like to sit with the people who didn't pay attention," he said. This led me to ask about how he got help when he needed it. He said the people who needed help would gather together and ask the students who did know. I chuckled and stated that my classmates and I do the same thing. After asking about his classes I asked about they helped him in his profession. My dad said that they've aided him throughout his whole life. "I've changed jobs many times and the classes I took connect to all the areas I have worked in," he says. Then I asked him what the hardest thing about university was and his answer was definitely not what I expected. He said the hardest part about it was when everyone went home for the holidays and he had to stay behind because he didn't have the money to go. He said that sometimes there was no water to shower or do laundry. I tried hard not to laugh knowing it must have been difficult for him. I predicted that would have been something he would have changed about his university experience but I asked just to be sure. He said he would have changed the professors that he didn't understand. Wow, how responsible! I then proceeded to ask the questions that would wrap up academics. I asked him" How was university different from your previous school?" He said that in the previous schools he barely did any work and he was able to have careless fun.
