Fear Manipulations in Literature

But exactly how is the readers' fear being manipulated by literary elements in the genres of horror and thrillers? .
             The conflicted relationship between the protagonists and their goals is established through a development of fear that evokes the readers' anticipation about the outcome of the works. The readers' fear also intertwined with their hope and anxiety: the two emotions that aroused in the anticipation of what's coming next in the novel. With this in mind, the build of these elements are perfectly illustrated through the two famous works: Perfume: The Story of a Murder by Patrick Suskind and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Both Suskind and Stoker employ various literary devices and techniques in order to execute the elements of these two genres. The element of the characteristics of magical realism along with the supernatural ability of the two protagonists, Jean Grenouille and Dracula develop themselves an enigmatic sense of power. Both authors also express one of the most important factors that exist in the genres of horror and thrillers; the protagonists are anti-heroes.
