Identifying Discrimination at Work

Researchers in the article Identifying Discrimination at Work: the Use of Field Experiments, explore the social problem of discrimination which is observed in the workplace. Discrimination at work is generally understood as an unwanted, unfair and unethical behavior at work place on the basis of somebody's cast, color, creed, ethnicity, gender religion, or national origin. This discrimination is committed through the series of discrimination acts, which exist in the work places of the society. Some of the examples of discrimination at work can be unequal pay, wrongful termination and demoralizing attitude. However, there are different kinds of discriminations, which may be easy or very difficult to understand in a general context (Pager & Western, 2012).
Most of the times, people themselves are unaware that they have been treated unfairly at job places. For example, if an employee receives a letter of termination on some act, which he is wrongfully accused of, he knew that he have been a victim of some kind of discrimination at work place. But in case of hiring of different individuals, a person having the required qualification and experience is not hired, then he may not be able to understand even that he is be4ing not hired on the basis of discrimination at the place he have applied for the specific position (Bendick & Nunes, 2012).
The research method, which is used to determine the discriminatory behavior at work places is the field experiments. Through the experiments carried out in real working organizations, data have been extracted and analyze to determine the nature, types and statistics for the discrimination at work places. For example, data obtained through field experiments at work places reveal that in comparison to the data collected in 1970, today the level of discrimination from the point of hiring and wrongful termination, is quite high than other kinds of discriminations.
