Analysis of Subliminal Messaging

2002). This was interesting because the images could be seen (given that the observer was paying attention). This movie intrigued me further and eventually led me to conduct further independent research to further explore other forms of subliminal messaging. .
As I searched for other examples of subliminal messaging, I came across a Simpson's episode titled "New Kids on the Blecch," (Groening & Silverman, 2001) that I found quite interesting and slightly disturbing. The Simpson's episode was about a producer who came into Springfield looking to put together a "boy band". The episode begins with Homer running in the Springfield Marathon. Bart wanted to win the trophy, so he set out in disguise as an older man in hopes to win the race. After winning the race incognito, the crowd realizes he is just a kid, and becomes angry. As the crowd is cornering Bart, a stranger known at L. T. Smash comes into the scene and rescues Bart from the angry mob. L. T. Smash introduces himself to Bart as a producer; he tells Bart that he would like to give him the opportunity to join a boy band. Smash sees Bart as the rebel he needs for the band to be successful. Bart agrees and finds himself among his fellow classmates Milhouse, Nelson and Ralph. Together they form the band called "Party Posse". Using NASA technology to enhance their voices, they find hope that they might just make it. Soon after discovering the technology, they are promoted into the spotlight by Smash and soon become pop stars. .
As Bart's family is sitting around watching the television, one of Bart's popular music videos comes on. Lisa, Bart's sister, quickly suspects something when hearing the lyrics "Yvan eht nioj" and sets out to discover what they mean. Upon playing the music video backwards, Lisa discovers that the hidden message says, "Join the Navy" (Groening & Silverman, 2001). Lisa then sets out to speak with L.
