Thirteen Days - The Cuban Missile Crisis


            13 days is about the cuban missile crisis in October of 1962. Kennedy and branches of the military handled the situation at hand. The problem with the cuban missile crisis was that missiles from Russia were being transported onto Cuban soil and were being setup. Cuba is only 90 miles off the coast of Florida. America was worried they had missiles, were they going to bomb America? Thats the biggest worry America had at that moment. .
             Some notable people to talk about is John F. Kennedy, Robert McNamara, Curtis LeMay, Kenneth O'Donnell, Robert Kennedy, Ted Sorensen, Dean Rusk, Rudolf Anderson and Adlai Stevenson. John F. Kennedy was the president at the time, he was the one that made the big decisions. Robert McNamara was JFK's secretary of defense. LeMay was head of air force and was apart of The Joint Chief Of Staffs. Kenneth O' Donnell was Kennedy's top advisor and helped made some decisions in the Cold War. Robert Kennedy is Johns brother, also helping with decision making and even convincing Russia to dismantle their nuclear warheads. Dean Rusk was Kennedys Secretary of state. Rudolf Anderson was the only pilot killed during The Cold War. He was shot down by Russian anti air missiles while on a run taking photos of Russian anti air missiles. Adlai Stevenson was the U.N ambassador that talked to the Russian ambassador Zhorin about the Nuclear warheads in Cuba. When Zhorin would not answer the question and told Stevenson he would tell him in due time, Stevenson replied I am prepared to wait for my answer until Hell freezes over." .
             Kennedy had to make some pretty big decisions. First thing off the bat was he needed EXCOM to help him with suggestions, they were experts on problems such as that. Kennedy also had to make some military decisions. Three military options he had was Bomb Cuba, invade Cuba or form a blockade around Russian traveling routes to Cuba. Kennedy eventually made the decision of quarantine, which is forming a blockade.
