Looking to the Future - Accepting Gay Marriage

Only problem is that married couples in the United States get may rights and privileges along with laws to protect both parties if they were to be divorced. It also gives them rights to medical decisions and responsibilities to children who they are biologically connected to or adopted. Many will argue that because same sex marriage was not originally written into the constitution that it has no place to be disputed. The only problem of that argument is that in the very beginning it says that all men are created equal. When that was written they did not intend it to apply to African Americans and that has certainly changed today. Now if you were to tell a black man that that line excluded him he would not stand for it. That is how gay rights activist present the problem to the world around them. Some are more open to listening. In some of the more socially liberal stated the marriage laws have passed but in other conservative ones they have passed more laws to make sure they prevent it. .
I personal don't understand why this is such a big deal in our country today. It may have something to do with where I grew up. Massachusetts was the first state to fully legalize gay marriage and I had a teacher in 5th grade that was on the front lines of the push for legislation. I also have and uncle who decided to move to Canada because the government is much more accepting there. These are two people that I trust and think very highly of. That is part of the reason that I feel so strongly about their rights to have the life they want to live. With that said, I do understand why some people are so against it. It scares them and makes them think of how horrified they would be to find out their kids are gay. They think it is contagious, and maybe it is. Not in the way of catching "the gay ", but in making it okay for people to come out and express their personal sexuality which will also lead to more people doing it.
