Gender Inequality - Standing Up for Women

Although it is progressing slowly there are still a lot of barriers that need to be crossed in order to reach full equality between women and men. For example, Turkish president Erdogan stated in a news conference " you can not bring women and men into equal positions, that is against nature because there nature is different then a males". As it is clear, if leaders of countries like Turkey are portraying this kind of a message, the problem of gender inequality will never be solved worldwide. It is not going to be solved because men in power persuade other people in there countries to believe that men should always hand the upper hand over a women and it is wrong to have both sexes equal to one another. When men hear leaders saying things like "men shouldn't not be equal to women because its against nature" the men automatically agree because they like the fact they can feel a sense of power. .
Another reason why gender inequality is harmful is because women are undervalued. For example, according to the U. S government "the workplace in U.S in 2010, an average woman only made 77 cents to every dollar a man earned". Studies prove that with women earning equal pay, the average incomes would rise and the number of families in poverty would fall. The GDP in the U.S. would grow by 9%, according to UN estimates, so we would all be enjoying a better economy, and the U.S. would have a lower rate of public assistance. Even still to this day there is a clear gender gap that needs to be fixed. Even more so, there are a lot of countries around the world where girls are not allowed to attend school. It is believed that they do not need an education and there only duty in life is to stay at home, have and take care of their children, as well as their husbands. World wide, girls constitute over half of the children who are out of school. Only 30 percent of all girls are enrolled in secondary schooling.
