Love's True Existence - Articles on Love

In previous years, the ability to feel and express love physically and emotionally was known to be a good thing. Today, falling in love has lost its truest meaning because of technology. For example, when meeting a girl for the first time, a man asks for her number first before asking her out on a date and then further pursues her by texting her, emailing, or through Facebook. This can cause the relationship to only be based on texting and social networking rather than face to face companionship. The article "What Is Carved in Stone" by David Mark Simpson describes how technology influences relationships. And the article, "Want to Be My Boyfriend? Please Define" by Marguerite Fields discusses the woman's point of view as to how relationships have changed. Both articles question the word "love" in many people's lives today. Two people connected as one, sharing laughs, sharing hardships, and sharing the best feeling a person can feel in a lifetime: love. But has society's modern day technology altered the word "love" into several different meanings and changed the aspect of such an emotion that the word itself became redundant and meaningless? Indeed, the use of technology is beneficial when communicating with others; however, relying on such a source for committed relationships can cause many people to lose the romanticism and serendipitous nature of true love.
Many relationships today are so focused in contacting each other through technology that they lose the idea of such a connection. For example, in David Mark Simpson's article, "What Is Carved in Stone," he explains the differences in his long distance relationships with his ex-girlfriend, Sarah, and now current girlfriend, Patti while in the military. Simpson described how easy it was for him to text a meaningful message to Sarah and how much more time it took him to express his real feelings through pen and paper to Patti.
