The US National Academy of Science has defined 'a pollutant as any undesirable change in the physical or biological characteristics of air; land and water that may or will harmfully affect human life or that of any species of living condition or cultural assets.4 The pollution of the soil, deforestation, contamination of water, air pollution, the extinction of some animal species, and above all the unhealthy extension of urban development- are the phenomena known as environmental issues."5 At present we are facing with abundant challenges in our environment. Some of this are-.
Pollution of Air, Water, Sound, Soil etc.
Green House effect and damage of Ozone layer.
Global Warming and The increase of Sea water level.
Arsenic pollution.
Climate Change and the polar region.
Atomic action and unhealthy competition of super States.
Deforestation.
Natural calamities like-cyclones, hurricanes, draughts, flood, earthquakes.
Extinction of Valuable species and trees.
Industrial wastages and use of unsafe chemicals etc.
Bio Diversity.
Environmental Degradation and the Current World's Initiatives:.
21st century is known as the most developed period of time immemorial, yet we have to achieve a lot for ultimate betterment, but there is happening a severe aggravation of environmental degradation. Though the entire world is not free from this danger, this problem is more acute in the third world countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Yemen, Myanmar, Cambodia etc. Lack of education and eventually the ignorance of environmental crisis along with other limitations put these LDCs (Least Developed Country) into a vulnerable situation. In fact, LDC's faces a double crisis: a crisis of development and a crisis of environment. The first of these involves provocation of commodity prices and poverty. The second involves global change, resource exploitation and energy supplies.'6 But it is a matter of great hope that we, the world thinkers are now concerned enough about this matter.
