The effects consensual crimes have on the world are meager. In society people tend to criminalize a lot of different activities such as prostitution, drugs, loitering, gambling; etc. The alleged crimes described do not directly effect another human being("Should all victimless crimes be made legal?", 2013). So the question is why are people being punished for crimes that effect no one but themselves? The foundation of my paper is to examine while elaborating on these alleged crimes to find there irrelevance in society. My primary audience is law makers who put many people behind bar for harmless crimes. I hope while doing this research paper the law makers who run this country will change some of their laws.
This topic originated from a personal experience in my household. My Father went out for drinks, he may have a little too much to drink. He drove his car to a parking lot in which he then went to sleep. About hour later a two cops approach him and arrested him. They arrest him a dui. Not only was he not driving but he was parked. He sentence 1 year in jail and revoked license including his business license. Seeing how cruel the justice system can be to people who have not once harmed another human being, force me to be advocate to those who were wronged. Since then my father was not able to obtain his job back nor drive for a very a long time. Laws are setup to hurt innocent people who don't belong in jail. I have seen first hand how one arrest can ruin someone entire future. My experience in harmless crimes has given me the reason write and defend those who have been put into the justice system and want a way out.
The tentative argument is victimless crimes do not effect other people. Yet, laws are made to interfere with people lives. In other words, crimes like drug possession or someone selling their body does not pose as a threat. However, the Government chooses to make laws that put these people in jail.
