The Rise of Fascism

The aftermath of the First World War Europe devastated economically and many Europeans were left questioning their political systems. A new form of government called fascism arose after the singing of the treaty of Versailles and the failure of the league of nations. Fascist leaders promised to expand and return their countries to greatness even if it meant breaking out into war. Germany was one of the few countries that turned to fascism. Doll Hitler was the leader of the fascist Nazi party in Germany , his plan was to expand Germany into other European countries which lead to the Munich Pact.
Hitler's main goal was to make Germany the most dominant power in Europe , he believed that Germany needed more living space for the expanding population of Aryans. Germany could not gain more living space without breaking the rules that the treaty of Versailles had in place for them . Hitler disobeyed the terms and expanded his army. In 1936 the German army was ordered to invade the Rhineland between Germany and France. This was a risky move but they succeeded in making it German territory . After this domination Hitler focused on Anschuluss which was the union of Germany and Austria , this was also not allowed in the treaty of Versailles. It was one of Hitler's dreams , their were obstacles standing in his way though. Hitler had to convince the Italian Fascist leader Benito Mussolini who had a treaty with Austria that guaranteed its independence. He offered Mussolini support in the Italian occupation in Abyssinia only if Italy would ignore its treaty with Austria , Mussolini agreed. Hitler and his Nazi army made their way to Austria and pressured them to legalize the Nazi party . Once it was legalized the party demanded union with Germany . The Austrian chancellor wanted independence and held a plebiscite , but Hitler was not happy and and threatened German invasion which lead to the chancellor to step down.
