17th Century European Changes in Government

The repression of their individual rights was not well received. Attempts to start a revolution within the working class began by reformed socialists such as George Sorel. Sorel attempted to create a revolution amongst the German workers, wanting them to form their own council and ignore the government to gain independence. Communism was seen as a new alternative to socialism, although it was often implemented due to the conditions of the society as opposed to the ideology. For example, the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 with the purpose of keeping citizens of Berlin in Germany (Hansen 11/16/12). Fascism was also a common governing style, with a leader ruling under the notion that all sovereignty is located in the organic nation. There should be complete loyalty to the nation and unity above individuality. As a mechanism of controlling society there were repressions of the working class society. The German Labor Front controlled the jobs that the working class were able to have. They limited their movement of jobs by implementing workbooks telling a person's job history, clearly limiting an individual's right to work where they please (Hansen 11/2/12). .
The introduction of more individual and human rights began with the collapse of European economy. The government controlled the production industry, causing overproduction of industrial goods and overemphasis on meeting production figures. The debt that was quickly collecting emphasized the gap between western success and European success. The revolution began with scholars realizing that in order to be successful, European society had to be modeled after Western society to become internationalized. This shift allowed for more freedom of speech as well as opposing parties to run for office. Not only were other parties running for office, but also they were winning. The change in government changed the beliefs and values of society. The Americanization of Europe began, causing the implementation of more American values and morals into European culture.
