America and the War on Drugs

Many people, particularly in the entertainment industry, are already campaigning to legalize a variety of so-called soft (or recreational) drugs, such as marijuana. Indeed, pro-drug lobbies already exist here in the U.K. and in the U.S" (p.3). His concerns are echoed through marijuana enthusiasts in the entertainment business and some high-ranking government officials. The drug war is just too large for one agency to handle and although there is progress, there is very little that is big enough to be recognized. There are answers, but they are answers that would mean the government would be giving in to the drug war and they would be allowing what they started in the first place to put a stop to. .
One of the answers is already being answered in places like California, Colorado, and Washington. The government officials from these states have allowed people to vote on the use of medical marijuana. It is only a matter of time before this fad takes places in other states throughout the nation, eventually allowing it to be legal completely. As of right now it is being used for strictly medical purposes not recreational ones. These medical marijuana facilities allow people with a doctor's prescription to purchase amounts of marijuana. In order to gain one of these prescriptions one would need to convince a doctor of some sort that they have a condition pertaining to things like anxiety, stress, or minor aches and pains. Marijuana is evolving into a medicine and getting further away from its drug status. The further it heads in this direction the closer the drug war can come to an end at the expense of it being legal. There will always be some sort of drug war going on, but it will be substantially easier for the different law enforcement agencies to control. The drug war without marijuana is like going down a highway with much less traffic than expected. It is just that much easier to maneuver around the process of performing drug busts and inching closer to the end of the drug war altogether.
