Better lifestyle and more modernized society.
Improved jobs and jobs for women.

The migration route in which the Irish emigrants took to arrive in America differed however most immigrants had to cross the Atlantic Ocean by boat. The most popular destinations were Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Charleston. Because of the harsh poverty most of the Irish people only had enough money for the boat ride over. Therefore it was common that they settled down nearby the ports where they arrived. That is why even today places like Boston and New York have a massive Irish-American population. At the time New York had more Irish inhabitants than Dublin which is the capital of Ireland. .
The Irish people left the farms and the country side and upon arrival in America many felt unprepared for the more industrialized and modernized society they had become a part of.
