The founders from Southern Colonies and the Northern Colonies had a common goal of commonwealth. However, there were totally different groups of people in the Southern and Northern Colonies. The main difference between tow colonies are external environment, society structure and religion's attitudes. Southern Colonies different from the Northern Colonies because the different external environment they faced. Compared to Northern Colonies, Southern Colonies established early and had more serious external environment. When the member of Virginia company arrived in Virginia, first they had to established their city on a virgin land and second they need to dealing with the native American. The English colonists had different outlook with native American. According the record by John Smith about the first exchange, the leader of Indians Powhatan asked for trading weapons but received negative respond, and settlers request was also refused by Powhatan (Smith 75). The unhappy exchange illuminated the roots of conflict between settlers and Indians. However, there was a different story for Northern Colonies, French and the Netherlands explored North earlier than British settlers, so they achieve a more comfortable environment to built their dream land.
The other issue differ two part of colonies was it society structure. The early settlers of Northern Colonies were mainly Puritans, while the explorers of Southern Colonies were mainly gold seeker, they seeking for wealth and treasure in the undeveloped new continent. Different groups of people created different society. From the records of the Virginia Company of London, it was a long time that the Southern Colonies society with a large number of single men, widows, and orphans rather than the family-oriented community. As a result, the company started sending women to colonies (Kingsbury 257). However, the bachelor situation remain unchange unitl several years later.
