Garry Winogrand was the best photographer of the twentieth century. He was a well known street photographer of New York City. He photographed American life from the 1950's to the 1980's. His photos compellingly join together the trust and thrill and additionally the uneasiness and turbulence that described America amid these crucial years, uncovering a nation that sparkles with plausibility yet undermines to turn crazy. From Fifth Avenue to Sunset Boulevard, from Cape Kennedy to the Texas State Fair, he made the American white collar class the essential subject of his portraits. Interminably inquisitive, Winogrand examined both urban areas and suburbs, constantly watchful for those moments when luck and optics may join to make a decent picture that uncovered some profound present in American society. I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see his work and find general themes. As stated before Garry, mostly shot pictures of American life. While looking through numerous photos, on specific theme jumped out at me as I looked through each section. Winogrand utilized a small, 35mm cam that empowered him to photo rapidly and openly, which he did to the compelling: at the time of his death in 1984, he left behind more than 2,500 undeveloped rolls of film. Winogrand photographed mostly women. Every other photo I viewed in the MET, had at least one female in it. This can show his love for women and how comfortable he is doing his job. He has one published book of many; named Women Are Beautiful, filled with pictures of women, of course. Viewing each of these photographs allowed me to get inside the mind of Garry Winogrand. The photos he took of women or any person, they were rarely looking into the lens. He mostly took candid shots. Garry just kept shooting; he never really looked at his photos right after taking them as most of us do today. The techniques that Winogrand used changed my perspective on how I create images.
