A Dive Into the Wealth Gap

It ensures that your family line will be well-to-do for a few more generations and it gives their family lines a head start into their endeavors. The second aspect, pride, is a great benefactor as well. Who would not want to be known as one of the richest wealthiest the world has known? Not only that, but your name now carries a legacy and everyone will recognize your family as that family that made billions. Lastly, greed is another reason why wealth is such an important thing to one-percenters. With so much money in your possession, you could own literally anything your heart desires. .
Furthermore, one specific article really piqued my attention. This one was written by no other than Robert Reich. Not an article per se, but a blog post he had written as a response to his own documentary containing both his philosophy and his point of view on the state of our economy. Reich opens up with stating that "If an economy is to function well, people need incentives to work hard and innovate. " And with " at what point do these inequalities become so great as to pose a serious threat to our economy " This is essentially Reich outlining what capitalism is in the first quote and outlining at what point capitalism may turn into a form of elitism that could end up controlling our whole economy. Reich also brings attention to how we have reached the "tipping point, " of our economy becoming dangerously unequal. Reich also gives us a brief history lesson on how our economy has become this way, he supplies us with this information: Gap in income after federal taxes and transfer payments have more than tripled in the top 1 percent, the after-tax-transfer income of the top 1 percent has increased by 275 percent and only 40 percent for the middle class and 18 percent for the lowest class. These numbers are incredibly staggering. When put into this perspective, it completely blew my mind on how much the scales of our economy tip into the favor of the one-percent and it only further goes towards their favor.
