In policing there are two different types of weapons. The two different types of weapons are lethal and non-lethal weapons. Lethal weapons, such as a gun can cause severe injury or even death. Non-lethal weapons are used so police have a way to subdue a suspect with less of a chance of the officer and suspect getting injured. They use less force than a lethal weapon. A question that can be bought up in policing is, are the non-lethal weapons working how they are suppose to in today's policing? This is a big issue because it does not just apply to the police but society as well. One side says that non-lethal weapons do not work and should not be used by the police. The other side says non-lethal weapons work and should be used by the police. .
A police officer has two different types of weapons in their arsenal. One type of weapon is lethal weapons. A lethal weapon is a weapon pertaining to or causing death or great harm. One example of a lethal weapon that is carried by police officers is a gun. Anytime a gun is fired there is a possibility someone might be killed or badly harmed. Police must use their best judgment when it comes to using a gun and other lethal weapons. Although lethal weapons are dangerous it is vital that police officers are trained with them so they can use them as effective as possible.
The other type of weapon and alternate to lethal weapons are non-lethal weapons. Non-lethal weapons also called less-lethal weapons are weapons intended to be less likely to kill and use less force. These weapons are created to temporarily stun and incapacitate the target with at least pain as possible. They try and minimize as much risk as possible when used. There are many different types of non-lethal weapons. Some of those weapons include but are not limited to the stun gun, pepper spray, tear gas. Ammo can also be altered in guns to be non-lethal. For example bean bagged ammo in shotguns and rubber bullets.
