The Prince by Machiavelli

" People are trustworthy when times are good, but eventually turn ambitions for the things they can't have. They turn selfish, liars, deceitful, and are only driven by profit when times get rough. However, they are admirers of great leaders with traits of power, honor, courage, and generosity because they represent power. But also because most people don't possess of these traits and they are driven by these traits since they hold some power. Even though Machiavelli's understanding of human nature was a complete contravention of what other humanists believed, he strongly promoted a irreligious society that exile morality since it stood in the war of an effective government.
In some of Machiavelli's quotes his attitude is portray as discordant and immoral but is because of Italy's unstable political condition during those times. "But when cities or provinces are used to living under a prince, and his family is wiped out, since on the one hand they are used to obeying, and on the other have lost their former prince, they cannot live in freedom without me. So they are slower to take up arms, and a prince can win them and sure himself of them more easily. " In human nature common people are concerned with their own well-being and that their support for the prince is only temporary. If the prince supports and benefits their contentment and rules the state correctly then the support will be there. This is a perfect example of The Prince because it views the best interest for the prince or ruler. Machiavelli describes that if a prince cannot be both feared and loved then he shall simply be feared by the people with his own principles. This is where Machiavelli mocks human nature in The Prince because he believes in the disloyalty of the man. His mistrust in the people is perfectly stated in his words were men are wretched creates who would not keep their word but can be control. They might not be able to keep their word to the prince but he needs to keep his word to them.
