Social Commentary - Struggling with Depression

"OMG you're so retarded!" "Ugh." Sound like the white girls on your Twitter feed? How much do you want to bet that none of them are actually mentally ill? Retarded. Bipolar. Schizo. OCD. These words are thrown around without a single thought to what they really mean. Kind of like the word "literally" (aka something else the white girls on your Twitter feed say at least twice per sentence). Too many times, I see or hear people talk about mental illnesses like they're common emotions. Well, guess what? They're not. They're serious issues that should be taken seriously. The problem is that too many times, people learn the symptoms of a mental disorder and assume that if somebody exhibits any those symptoms, that automatically means that they have that mental disorder. Because clearly, if I'm bothered by your crooked picture and go to fix it, I have OCD. And I'm sorry, but just because you're sad that your pumpkin spice latte has too much foam doesn't mean you're depressed.
The issue isn't with specific people and I can't place all the blame on the stupid floozies I'm constantly surrounded by. However, I can certainly place the blame on society. Sure, it's a cliche. I know. But it's true. Society in these past few years has gone down the drain. There are too many stigmas on things that should just be taken as a normal thing. And usually, they are normal things. But when was the last time you heard someone openly talking about their depression? Yea. You had to rack your brain, didn't you? But one in .
every five people has some form of depression or mental illness. That means when you count the weirdoes you see walking by you in the hallway, one out of every five of them is probably hurting inside but they're too afraid to let anybody know. But why is that? Why is it easier to tell people you have 11 toes than to tell them you have schizophrenia? Why is it easier to say you can't taste on the left side of your tongue than to say you have a dissociative identity disorder? I'll tell you why.
