"Why of course you can ." " We can understand Gatsby's personality by looking at his house and the parties he throws . Although his house is large and expensive , it is also described as tacky " it was a factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy , with a tower on one side , spanking new under a thin beard of raw ivy" . Fritzgerald uses Gatsby's house to describe his status in society , he tries hard to fit in with the "old money" , but no matter how hard he tries , he still seems like an outsider to them.
             Gatbsy was wealthy , but it was an empty form of success , and he dedicated his life to recapturing lost time between Daisy and him.He threw extravagant parties , hoping Daisy would show up and fall in love with him again.He did this all for Daisy , who was initially impressed with his wealth. "I've never seen such beautiful shirts before (Daisy)".
             His parties and house shows the disillusionment of Gatsby , who was corrupted by the American Dream.
             The parties also showed the satire of 1920s New York lifestyle Fritzgerald was trying to portray , a new era where women had indepence "Women are running around too much these days" (Tom) He also make fun of these people whose mind evolves around hopping from one party to another , does not even take time to greet the host then start spreading rumours about him. .

             Tom and Daisy Bunchnan lived on the West Egg .It is where the "Old money" lives , where authentic breathtaking palaces stand , but behind these lovely palaces , are unhappy relationships , love affairs and self-centered irresponsible people. Tom and Daisy are married , yet both have affairs behind each other's backs ; Tom with Mytrle , Daisy with Gatsby . They try to find happiness with their lovers , but does not committ to them because they are scared of the risks of changing their lifestyle. It brings up the theme of obsession with money , and materialism.
