College, Cellphones and Distractions

A final theme that was presented from literature is social media and how you can use your mobile devices to have apps like "Facebook" right on your phone and do everything you would on that app that you would on a computer. Although, all these themes focus on different main subject they still tend to have some kind of understanding. .
The first theme was found amongst the literature is that it doesn't matter where you are the type of phone motivates the use of cell phone use in different places. Scott Campbell (2007) has established that "studies have examined mobile phone us in many settings, including restaurants, grocery stores, buses, trains, and movie theaters, yet there remains"(Campbell, 2007, P. 281). In a similar literature research, Wei and Leung (1999) found that "no public consensus as to what should be appropriate boundaries or acceptable etiquette for these private behaviors in public space" (p. 281). Therefore, all of this research from the articles combine suggests one major thing, that there is no location that is acceptable for the use of a cell phone. It doesn't matter where you use the phone "study reported talking on a mobile phone while on public sidewalks, in grocery stores, and on buses to be socially acceptable, while they strongly regarded use of technology in classrooms and movie theaters as unacceptable" (p.281). It is appalling and students then wonder why students complain about bad grades and daily distractions. .
Another theme among the literature is the specific brand of devices "good" brands and "bad" brands. When researching on the brands of devices, the journal (2008) stats that Fill 'Er Up is one of the most satisfying articles when it states that there are a lot of devices. "What to do with all those cell phones, PDAs, and iPods tucked away in students backpacks" (p.
