With this rule being implemented, these two players grew to love each other and raised the level of their game leading them to having an amazing season. Even greater than that, they led a whole community to accept racial diversity.
Friendship is so important in each one of our lives. We all want to feel loved and accepted. These two players were able to use key things in the nature of friendship and the development of friendship to become even more than friends. Well before the movie was over they were referring to each other as "brothers ". The two captains were willing to invest time, patience and effort into their team and this friendship. One of the biggest components to them finally becoming friends was Acceptance. They accepted each other as different and were able to unite a team and eventually a community because they accepted and supported each other. What seemed to have made their friendship so powerful and strong was the fact that they faced Internal Tensions and External Pressures. They had to come to terms with what they had been taught their whole life may not be correct. The other race actually can be good people also. They had to overcome in their mind that this was okay and that they could be friends. The External Pressures were obvious. The whole city and team was not for this team to be together. Even the parents were upset that they were becoming friends. These two young men had every right to not be friends. They were able to show great levels of maturity and emotional intelligence to accept each other, regardless of every source against them, and become best friends.
There were things individuals would do in the movie that were vital to interpersonal communications. Julius, one of the two friends to first set aside his pride, was a star defensive end who used visualization before every game in order to get prepared for it. He would envision himself making big, game changing plays.
