What I choose to propose is that the United States should ban all personal use of firearms.Gun control is one of the most controversial topics within the United States. With growing gun violence there has been a push in the American people to have stricter laws controlling guns. With recent casualties such as Trayvon Martin a young African American teen who was unarmed was gunned down by neighbor George Zimmerman ultimately just because he looked suspicious. Some people think more gun control laws are necessary to put a cap on violence, while others think they should have that right to freely and legally protect themselves with guns. .
I feel the laws controlling guns are too lax.The minimum age for purchasing a firearm such as a rifle is eighteen, just because a person has reached that goal that is stated to be the start of adult hood doesn't mean they are mentally and emotionally mature enough to handle ownership of a rifle, shotgun, or even an air gun. Laws in their purest form are supposed to be for the protection and common good of the people. In the United States there are plenty of laws focused on who guns can be sold to and who they cannot be sold to. These laws are enforced at local gun shops everyday but the gun violence continues. It is too easy just to buy a gun off the street who needs the fancy gun shop with all the rules. But, if those shops did not exist and guns weren't willingly sold to civilian people with the proper qualifications that will significantly decrease the out put of guns on the streets. .
There are many acceptable reasons to own a gun, such as for hunting, protection, and as a collection. But who is to say those guns wont end up in the wrong hands. Its better to be safe then sorry.People feel as if you are violating their rights when you say that ownership of a gun is unacceptable but how many acts of violence have to occur before we say this is the end. .
