There are a number of connotations that are often used to describe a people's culture. But culture is generally accepted as the way people chose to live their lives whether it be by their traditions, languages, notions, dress or eating habits, or even their lifestyle.
Any comparison of two cultures would produce a wide range of cultural differences. A comparison of American and Japanese cultures reveals numerous variations and some similarities. Japanese, as well as American cultures are heavily influenced by the people and the kind of society the people living in any region of either country. For instance, the society in Japan is largely homogeneous and middle class, whereas the American society favors a majority heterogeneous. This style is due largely to the increased levels of immigration, and as the reform continues to press forward this will continue to leave America with their diverse ethnicity a country with an inequality gap so large that no other country will come near it. These two varying trends have profound influence on the cultures of the two societies. .
Due to the divergently ethnic groups in American society, this has helped produce a large number of subcultures existing within a single American "macro-culture ". This is one of the key distinguishing features of American culture. Every American citizen belongs to a number of subcultures. Each of these subcultures are derived from one of many things including ethnicity, origin, religion, class, gender, sexuality, geographical location and so on. Each subculture shares its own common attributes with the main macro-culture.
With the above being stated, Japan, and the Japanese society is not as diverse, in terms of subcultures. This is due to many factors, including but not limited to less willingness to sacrifice beliefs, less complex sociological statuses, and a key one that sums all the rest up is less immigration, only a small fraction of Japan are not of Japanese ethnicity this number is said to be less than 1 percent.
