Gender and the American Dream


             The Reveal Ad for Calvin Klein is more effective because of how the ad sells their product. This ad uses a different approach to target mostly women because women are more prone to buy for spouses, boyfriends, and significant others. Calvin Klein has placed the words, 'Reveal' into the ad in big letters. This is called association as Calvin Klein is attempting to associate their product with the success of the Victoria Secret angel Doutzen Kroes. Women who want to feel seductive and sexual and become as successful as she is will want to use this as she too uses this product. A photograph of a well lit; close up of a seductive Doutzen Kroes wearing only a black nighty and also showing a close up of a seductive muscular back of a well fit man. This is attempting to get the readers to believe that wearing this perfume you'll be as sexual and seductive as her and more men would seduce you because this 'angel' is also using this reveal perfume. Calvin Klein has done this in hope that the person reading this ad will associate these emotions of sensual, seductive, and excitement with Calvin Klein and their product. In the second ad it shows the product of Gucci cologne for men. In the top of the ad it reads 'Gucci Guilty'. This is also called association as Gucci is attempting to associate their product with famous Actor Chris Evans and Actress Evan Rachel Woods. Men who want to feel affectionate towards their significant other would want to buy this product because it will make women feel more pleasurable, flirtatious, and desirable. This is attempting to get the readers that if they wear this product they too will feel like Chris Evans and all women will want to have more affection towards them. Gucci has done this too in an attempt to get the reader to buy the product whether its men or women because to men it shows that they will be dominant and that their significant other would be more flirtatious towards them and with women if they buy it for their significant other it will make them seem more affectionate and desirable.
