Fall of a Pagan, Rise of a Saint

A job she would take on till her death in 969. Her teachings would always be remembered though, through the people she converted under her rule and in the minds of her three grandchildren most notably Vladimir himself. Unknowingly Olga had possibly begun what would turn into the mass conversions of the Kiev's people to Christianity. As because of her Vladimir may have converted in her name. .
As stated the Kievan Rus' conversion indeed had begun with Olga of Kiev. And for that that she was named saint and is still remembered for her deeds today in modern Russia. But as stated there was one thing she could never do and that was convert her own son Svaitoslav to Christianity. For it is know that even though his mother was a converted woman Svaitoslav remained a pagan just as his father had. When Svaitoslav became of age he took control of Kiev and with a mindset of building the most powerful nation he looked to extend his land. Thus becoming the military commander he is known today as. He would spilt the leadership of the nation with his mother Olga. This so when he was away on his constant military campaigns he could have someone he truly trusted take care of Kiev. It is because Svaitoslav was a military commander that he is believed to have held off from converting to Christianity and remained a pagan his whole life. Svaitoslav could not, nor was willing to take time away from his campaigns to convert. On top of the fact that he feared losing the faith of his armies Rev N. Fedorovich recants his words "How can I accept another faith, my warriors would mock me"2. For many of his troops were Christian, converted by Olga. But many more were pagans and Svaitoslav could not bare to lose the supports of these pagan troops in this crucial time of war. Though Svaitoslav seen no harm in Christianity he valued his armies more, be it Christian or pagan troops. And for this fact he remained pagan, never losing the faith of his troops as he would expand his nation.
