Tosca and De Barros Estamos Hechos

Select any two stories from Cuentos de Eva Luna and describe how Allende explores.
female characterisation in these stories. In both 'Tosca' and 'De Barro Estamos Hechos', Allende explores female characterisation in great depth. She portrays two very strong female characters who feature in two stories where the male is still quite the dominant sex.
In 'Tosca' we see Maurizia as a very strong female from a young age when she tells her Father that she no longer wants to play the piano and believes that singing is her fortay; despite having an obvious talent for paino playing. Allende characterises Maurizia's strength throughout her adolescence up until she meets Ezio, and she soon marries him. This is where we see the first lapse in Maurizia's strength and she seems to 'settle' with a tradesman, albeit he has a decent amount of wealth. Maurizia is not happy being married to Ezio and despite him showering her with gifts, she believes that the grass is greener on the other side as he desires a love with much more purporse. She finds the strength to abadon her son even under the premise she will never see him again, and runs away to find Leonardo Gomez; a man who she believes will fulfil her romantic aspirations.
Allende is again depicting a woman who has the strength the ambition to achieve what her heart wants. However, despite her attempts to create a deep meaningful love with Leonardo, Maurizia has to accept that she will never gain this from the doctor who swept her off her feet. Leonardo seems to be more in love with his work than he is with her. Maurizias's strength is once again weakened when Leonardo dies due to fever. She seems to have a bit of a public meltdown where a knife needs to be wrestled from her grasp, with her threatening to plunge the weapon deep into her abdomen. However, Allende ends the story characterising Maurizia as truly a strong person when she despite desperately wanting to see her son after 28 years, decides that it is in everyones best interest if she doesn't and she leaves her ex husband and her son to be happy, as they are better off without her.
