How can we allow innocent lives to repeatedly be sacrificed in the name of freedom? Gun control has been the leading source of discussion for many years now. Many have debated if it should be banned or kept. For me, I feel that in order for us to lower the crime rate, gun control would have to be made as a main focus and strictly enforced. I believe that guns should only be used by soldiers and police officers because of their job titles; so why not we stick to the smaller weapons like, taser, pepper spray or bats as protection. Base on my strong opinions I will be discussing my view point on gun usage; the danger it has within our community, the effects it has on our economy, and some of the Social effects that comes along with it.

Figure 1: This cartoon shows how violence is portrayed commonly on TV (www.cartoonstock.com).
First and far most, within our community we witness gun violence commonly; whether it on the news, in the newspaper, or in a movie as shown in figure 1. Each year, more than twenty thousand Americans die from gun suicides, homicides, and unintentional shootings (Haerenes, p.g16). If our community continues to witness horrors like these from generation to generation its will starts to look as norm within our society. Something must be done before it gets worse. Throughout the years there were laws that were passed about the right of gun control, and even to todays date they are still finding newer laws. The main law that started all this was passed in 1791: the Second Amendment; it guarantee individuals the right to bear arms. In the year 1968, Gun Control Act was passed. The act states that owners do not have to register guns that they already own, and that dealers cannot sell to minors, felons, drug addicts, or the mentally ill (Kevin, p.g10). Though these laws at the time made sense, I dont think they gave it enough thought. Now-a-days people use fake addresses and names in order to disguise themselves to get things.
