In my political analysis for the president, persuading the president towards a defined policy and the support for democracy worldwide, I would be identifying the benefits and costs of democratic transitions, the elements of making democratic transition successful and common obstacles to successful democratic. Democracy is a type of government in which all citizens of the nation together determine public policy, ability to protest or criticize, freedom of action, freedom to choose and the right to vote. Also, citizens have an equal opportunity to express their opinion. Elements that make this happen are fair and equal elections and the voice of the people. According to Dahl, a democratic process include effective participation, voting equality, enlightened understanding, control of the agenda and inclusion of adults. These are benefits of a democracy. Larry Diamond implies that democracy includes freedom of expression, freedom of press and freedom to join organizations. Samuel Huntington implies democracy to be freedom to speak, publish and conduct electoral campaigns.
Democratic Transition is a process of changing regime type from authoritarian to democracy. According to Huntington, "Corruption, inefficiency, incompetence, domination are found in all societies no matter what their form of government. " .
Transitions to democracy usually occur in middle levels of economic developing countries. Poor countries are not likely to make this change. Countries that are striding forward are the countries likely to be democratic or would be in transition. All countries cannot undertake a democracy transition. Democracy comes with a cost and therefore not all countries can maintain this change. Some countries see other countries making the change and may follow (snowballing); others may not just be ready for it. Benefits associated with democratic transition include, economic advantages over nondemocratic systems.
