Music Review - Violin Orchestra Symphony

The program was given right away when we were entering the theatre. It's very helpful because they give a background on what they're going to present in the concert. Every time they play a piece we knew what the song was going to be about. It also gave other information about different concerts that they will be having again in the Palace Theatre. My seat was pretty close to the stage. I sat on the left side of the stage. It was a decent view because we got to see all the instruments even though we couldn't see who was playing them. The Cellos, Viola and bass were set on the left side and all the violins were in the middle spread neatly in a U-Shape. All the other instruments were in the back. For example: The flutes, oboes, clarinet, bassoon, horns, trumpets, trombone, bass trombone, tube, timpani, percussion and the harp. .
The program booklet gave a list of the pieces the orchestra was going to play. It consisted of three pieces: Self Portrait from Death and Fire, Violin Concerto in D Minor, op 47 and Symphony No. 4 in F minor, op. 36. Self Portrait from Death and Fire by Tan Dun was composed in 1983. It portrayed by a string orchestra. Self- portrait has three movements of Dialogue. It flows with different series of instrumental textures. In Violin Concerto in D minor, op 47 by Jean Sibelius was composed in 1903. It has three movements in this piece. The genre of this piece is Violin concerto. The Symphony No.4 in F minor, op. 36 was composed between 1877 and 1878. It consists of three movements as well. Its type of genre is symphony.
Self Portrait from Death and Fire was composed by Tan Dun in 1983. It starts very mysterious and spooky. You feel like you're in a horror film. You can hear the violins just screeching their instruments. And the cello player starts to hit his instrument to make a beat. It does different dynamics. Its start low and then immediately it becomes loud. It becomes very intense like if something is going come at you.
