If to live is to suffer is a strong belief in the Hindu religion then why does this system believe in pain and suffering? Does the Hindu Gods believe in hurting people who worship them? According to Jayaram V who is an author, writer, lead teacher in Hinduism and founder of the website www.Hinduwebsite.com states that suffering arises because of our actions, desires and attachments to earthly things. He also goes on to state suffering exists only in our minds (V, 2014). While I agree suffering comes from our actions or actions of another person I dont think suffering or pain is a state of mind. The world of science has given society incredible advances in pain medicines where just taking a small pill can stop pain, but the suffering still remains. An example of this is when I was 16 years old; I was playing left field for my high school baseball team. It was a normal day with little to no action, until the bottom of the 4th inning when a shallow pop up ball was hit my way, and the short stop ran back, and I came in on the ball. Before I knew it, we collided in left field, and I was passed out with four broken facial bones. It took me about three months to fully recover from this incident, which was a fast time, but I remember the pain I was in and the difficulty I had during the two years. I had several challenges with eating, drinking and even sleeping. .
While this experience I went through is something that I will remember the rest of my life, I must question what have I done in a past life that would warrant such an experience. If the belief of karma in the Hindu religion is true then why cant a person be born again with some type of knowledge of about their past life to justify their current life. Jayaram states when people suffer, it is to make them whole and to guide them onto a path of salvation. Suffering and pain in the Hindu religion are short-term with respect to how many times a person is born again (V, 2014).
